Empower not Fix
Do you think Spiderman is ‘normal’ ? He’s different but he’s still cool!
One of, if not the most important thing to me, about our programs is that the kids do not feel as though they are coming here to be ‘fixed‘ because something is ‘wrong‘ with them.
A lot of the kids that come to our program start our first session with their head down, as they start to tell me all their problems, everything that they do wrong, all their woes, all the trouble they have been in, how hard life is for them and on they go. They don’t need to do that in our programs.
We are of course here to talk things through if they really need or want to but we are about moving forward to better days rather than analysing the past. Through the use of stories we help kids recognise the things in their lives that are not working well ‘for them‘ and give them the tools to understand why things are the way they are, and how they can use their mind and their thoughts to change their results.
One of the reasons we use stories in our programs is so that children can relate to and learn the lessons through the eyes of the characters without feeling like the focus is on ‘fixing’ them.
